Funky Friday

Every Friday in one of my classes we celebrate Spieltag, (which supposedly has something to do with sports or games or something); the gist of it what it means for us is that it is going to be a different type of class.

We don't celebrate Spieltag here at the Inn though, cause it's not a sweet alliteration like FUNKY FRIDAY! Guess what! TODAY IS FUNKY FRIDAY!

Today's Funky Friday task:

Come up with an amazing metaphor, story, object lesson, allegory, analogy, simile, symbol, idea etc. about/for unity that doesn't revolve around the body or a house.

I will start. The unity that Christians should have with one another is like a rainbow. We can see all of the individual colors, and yet the edges between them aren't definable, and ultimately they all come together to create pure white.

Funky Friday...go!!

Hmmm...How about an onion? Many layers, each serving it's purpose, and yet incomplete without the other - certainly during the growing process.

Just a thought :-)

What about tree rings...you start out with a "core" and after each year you get a bigger ring. Some people are closer than others but you all are witness to the growth of the church or tree. (Needs help I know! Thought of it right away after reading Andrew's onion comment!)

Thoughts or expansions on my tree analogy?

Christian unity is like links on a chain. One link of a chain doesn't do much, but many links strung together makes something that serves a much wider, broader use.

Again Christian unity is like ivory that is chipped away by a master sculptor. Each chipping away molds us and shapes us in unity to the image of Christ.

Once more, Christian unity is like a master chef that comes up with a new recipe, collects all the ingredients and prepares a 5-star meal that brings pleasure to all who eat it, in which they savor the taste and texture of the food, and after the meal are full and satisfied.

Got one more:

Christian unity is like a writer who creates a masterwork. Each word of the book is orchestrated in such a way to convey the depths of the heart and influences those who read it to change for the better.

And I'll explain this one: Each word in the book is one of us. Christ is the author. He orchestrates us in such a way that non-believers read it and are profoundly shaken; they recognize the truth contained in the book and they resonate with the book so strongly, it changes their very nature, and they are never the same from that day forth.
